Position Overview

Life Healthcare is seeking a Theatre Manager for Life St George’s Hospital in Gqeberha. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management and coordination of clinical practice and resources within the theatre complex, ensuring that the strategic objectives of quality, growth, and people are met.

Key Responsibilities

Effective Clinical Leadership

  • Coordinate and facilitate the nursing care plan for patients, ensuring the correct treatment is delivered within the appropriate Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) program.
  • Act as a clinical expert in achieving optimal patient outcomes.
  • Ensure the competence of staff and students, provide feedback, and create a conducive learning environment.
  • Foster customer satisfaction, address complaints, and ensure the unit’s care levels meet standards through audits and quality care rounds.
  • Implement national quality initiatives aimed at improving clinical outcomes within the unit.
  • Identify clinical and safety risks, implement corrective actions, and monitor their effectiveness.

Leadership and People Management

  • Provide visible leadership, upholding Life Healthcare’s values and nursing strategy.
  • Manage all people-related processes within the unit, ensuring a productive and efficient environment.
  • Actively participate in hospital-specific marketing initiatives and drive best operating practices.

Financial and Equipment Management

  • Participate in business planning and budgeting and manage nursing costs according to the allocated budget.
  • Oversee stock utilization, cost control, and product management within the unit.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly operated and maintained for a safe patient environment.

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., doctors, HODs, service providers, patients, and family members).
  • Work closely with doctors to ensure effective communication and patient outcomes.
  • Act as an advocate for Life Healthcare, addressing industry challenges and fostering professional relationships.

Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    • Degree/Diploma in Nursing with at least 5 years of post-basic experience and proven leadership/people management experience within healthcare.
    • Diploma in Operating Theatre Nursing Science (essential).
    • A Postgraduate Qualification in Management and Nursing Education (advantageous).
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years’ experience as a qualified theatre registered nurse.
    • Current South African Nursing Council (SANC) registration.
  • Skills:
    • Basic understanding of labour legislation, financial principles, and change management.
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Driver’s license and own transport.
