Position Overview

Life Healthcare is offering a vacancy for a Renal Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Technologist at Life Renal Dialysis in Newcastle. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive and high-quality nursing care to renal patients, ensuring a positive outcome in line with Life Healthcare’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Patient Care

  • Provide basic and specialized nursing care to renal patients.
  • Communicate with patients and families regarding their condition.
  • Administer medication in compliance with ethical and legal frameworks.
  • Follow internal policies and protocols to ensure patient safety and care standards.
  • Advocate for patients and liaise with the medical team to ensure the appropriate care plan is in place.
  • Monitor and assess patients’ acute and chronic dialysis treatments.

People Management

  • Collaborate and interact with the multi-disciplinary team to provide optimal patient care.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance personal and professional growth.
  • Ensure that the renal team is working within the appropriate scope of practice, utilizing the correct skills mix.

Cost Management

  • Manage stock usage in line with unit-specific policies.
  • Control staff leave hours and attendance according to company policies.

Infection Control and SHEQ

  • Maintain a safe and holistic patient environment, adhering to infection control standards.
  • Complete SHEQ alerts and incident reports to the SHEQ Coordinator.
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment.

Stakeholder Management

  • Conduct doctor-specific orientation and provide support with prescriptions and patient rounds.
  • Assist in multi-disciplinary team efforts to improve patient outcomes.

Equipment Management

  • Ensure that all dialysis equipment is in working condition.
  • Educate and supervise staff and doctors on proper equipment utilization.

Record Keeping

  • Ensure all records are accurate and comply with legal and ethical requirements.

Requirements

  • Qualification:
    • Relevant Degree/Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Technology.
    • For Nurses: Current registration with SANC.
    • For Clinical Technologists: Current registration with HPCSA.
  • Experience:
    • Nursing experience in a Renal Unit.
    • Experience with acute and chronic dialysis treatments in ICU and High Care settings.
    • Experience with dialysis machines and related equipment.
  • Must be willing to work within a flexi-hours system and participate in the acute dialysis call system.
  • Own vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
