Position Overview
Life Healthcare is seeking a Renal Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Technologist for their Renal Dialysis Unit at Panorama. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality holistic care to renal patients, ensuring optimal patient outcomes in alignment with company and hospital strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Patient Care
- Deliver quality basic and specialized nursing care to renal patients.
- Maintain continuous communication with patients and their families about the patient’s condition.
- Administer medication in accordance with ethical and legal frameworks.
- Ensure adherence to internal policies and protocols.
- Advocate for patients by discussing acuity with case management and notifying doctors of any limitations.
People Management
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimal care.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for the team to ensure personal and professional growth.
- Ensure the renal team adheres to the scope of practice and effectively utilizes the correct skill mix.
Cost Management
- Manage stock used in the unit according to established policies and protocols.
- Control staff hours and leave as per company policy.
Infection Control & SHEQ
- Maintain a safe, holistic patient environment, ensuring infection control measures are followed.
- Complete SHEQ alerts and incident reports to the SHEQ Coordinator to ensure a safe working environment.
Stakeholder Relationships
- Conduct in-service orientation on doctor-specific preferences.
- Assist multi-disciplinary team members with their duties.
- Ensure effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
Equipment and Instrumentation Management
- Check and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any issues to the Unit Manager and Clinical Engineer.
- Educate and supervise staff and doctors on the correct use of specialized equipment and instrumentation.
Record Keeping
- Ensure patient records are accurately completed and stored in accordance with legal and ethical requirements.
Requirements
- Education:
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Clinical Technology (for Clinical Technologists).
- Registration:
- Current registration with SANC (for Nurses).
- Current registration with HPCSA (for Clinical Technologists).
- Experience:
- Nursing work experience in a Renal Unit.
- Experience administering both acute and chronic dialysis treatments, particularly in ICU and High Care settings.
- Ability to work with various dialysis machine makes and models.
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to work flexible hours and take on call duties for acute dialysis.
- Own vehicle and valid license to travel for acute dialysis services.
