Position Overview
Life Entabeni Hospital is seeking Registered Nurses with theatre qualifications to join the Main Theatre team. Reporting to the Theatre Manager, these positions focus on providing quality care and assistance to the surgical team, ensuring patients receive optimal care during procedures. Candidates with experience in neuro and general surgery are particularly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management:
- Manage theatre clocking time for accurate charging.
- Ensure consignment stock, equipment, and prostheses are charged according to policy.
- Participate in regular stock-taking and manage consignment stock per hospital policy.
- Equipment and Instrumentation Management:
- Supervise the correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation and provide training as needed.
- Quality Patient Care:
- Collect patient information pre-operatively and monitor post-operative care.
- Support the surgical team by assisting doctors and ensuring patient comfort.
- People Management:
- Conduct theatre-specific training and evaluate staff competence.
- Help the Unit Manager monitor normal and overtime hours.
- Encourage adherence to the theatre team’s scope of practice and provide feedback for optimal performance.
- SHEQ Management (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality):
- Ensure the use of personal protective equipment and comply with ISO standards.
- Manage medical waste disposal and infection control.
- Stakeholder Relationship Management:
- Attend meetings to foster healthy relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Escalate unresolved external issues to the Unit Manager for further action.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with a post-basic qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing Science (OTNS).
- Minimum two years of theatre experience.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience in a senior nursing position.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy, and patience.
- Proficiency in planning, organizing, and time management.
- Strong customer orientation and stress tolerance.
