Position Overview
Life Healthcare is looking for a Stock Controller to manage and coordinate the pharmacy services at Life St George’s Hospital. The successful candidate will ensure the effective management of pharmaceutical stock, meeting quality standards, achieving financial objectives, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards. This position requires working both in the pharmacy and the wards to manage inventory, maintain stock levels, and support the hospital’s operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Medication Safety and Inventory Management:
- Report 100% of inventory incidents and develop appropriate remedial actions.
- Conduct trend analysis with the Pharmacy and Theatre unit managers on a quarterly basis.
- Report alerts and take corrective actions to ensure stock safety and quality management.
- Quality Management Systems:
- Participate in the implementation and compliance with Life Healthcare’s Quality Management Systems.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as SAPC (South African Pharmacy Council), Department of Health (DOH), and Life Healthcare’s professional standards.
- Financial Management:
- Contribute to the achievement of budgeted financial targets for pharmacy, ward, and theatre stock management.
- Actively manage cost of sales of pharmaceuticals in line with revenue and set budget targets.
- Stock and Asset Management:
- Perform stock counts, reconcile differences, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain stock levels, manage stock reports, and sell dead stock to avoid overstocking.
- Order and unpack stock, ensuring suppliers fulfill orders correctly and on time.
- Participate in month-end stock procedures, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, nursing colleagues, and other hospital staff.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric Certificate) is essential.
- Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Email, Internet).
- Experience in inventory management or relevant experience in a hospital environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of inventory control processes and procedures is required.
- Ability to work well within a team environment.
- Reliable transport and availability to work flexible shifts when needed.
