Position Overview

Life Healthcare invites applications for a Clinical Training Specialist at Life Cosmos Hospital in Mpumalanga. Reporting to the Nursing Standards Manager, Judy Taljaard, the selected candidate will coordinate and deliver clinical nurse training programs. The primary focus will be ensuring qualified nurses and students meet competency requirements aligned with the strategic objectives of Life Healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Training Specialist will play an essential role in driving clinical skills development, risk management, and nursing education.

1. Clinical Training Coordination

  • Training Program Planning: Develop, coordinate, and facilitate clinical skills development programs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • In-Service Training Management: Manage risk-based in-service training programs, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Competency Assurance: Provide ongoing training to ensure that staff members are competent in using products and following clinical protocols.

2. Risk and Incident Management

  • Identify Clinical Risks: Recognize potential risks in clinical practices and training areas. Implement corrective actions to mitigate these risks.
  • Incident Investigation: Actively participate in investigations of incidents, identifying gaps in clinical delivery, and formulating action plans for improvement.
  • Preventative Measures: Coordinate and facilitate training programs aimed at preventing clinical risks.

3. Research and Continuous Improvement

  • Clinical Research: Conduct research on relevant clinical practices, identifying areas where improvements are needed.
  • Investigation of Gaps: Address gaps in clinical delivery by investigating issues, creating plans of action, and documenting results for future reference.

4. Marketing the Nursing Profession

  • Promote Nursing: Actively participate in promoting the nursing profession within the community, serving as a role model for best practices in clinical care.

5. Shift and Availability

  • Flexible Hours: Perform duties during night shifts, with potential day shift requirements depending on the needs of the unit.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Nursing Diploma/Degree: A relevant qualification in nursing is required, with a specialization in Nursing Education.
  • Minimum Experience: At least 4 years of experience in nursing training or education.
  • SANC Registration: Must be currently registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Clinical Leadership Expertise: Proven experience in clinical leadership and the ability to manage clinical education and training.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Strong understanding of the legislation governing nursing practice.
  • Facilitation Skills: Ability to facilitate and assess training sessions effectively.
  • Drivers License: A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Computer Proficiency: Competency in computer applications relevant to training and administration.
