Position Overview
As a Control Instrumentation Technician, your primary responsibility will be to provide first-line maintenance support to enhance plant availability, ensure product quality, and manage costs. Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day tasks will include a mix of hands-on technical work and collaboration with other skilled professionals in the field. Here’s what you can expect:
- First-Line Maintenance Support: You will ensure that maintenance activities are conducted effectively and efficiently to maintain 24-hour coverage for the plant. Your expertise will help to enhance plant availability, ensuring that production processes run smoothly.
- Electrical and Instrumentation Tasks: You will perform a combination of electrical and instrumentation tasks to support the manufacturing process. This includes troubleshooting and resolving issues that may arise, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Production Service: Providing a responsive service to production teams is key to minimizing delays. You will work proactively to solve recurring issues, maintaining a steady flow of operations.
- Standard and Shutdown Tasks: Conducting standard maintenance schedules and specific shutdown tasks will be part of your responsibilities. This ensures that all systems are operating at optimal levels and ready for production when needed.
- Testing Repaired Spares: After repairs have been completed on spare parts, you will be responsible for testing these components to verify their functionality and reliability before they are put back into use.
- Inventory Management: You will maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, managing the lifecycle of items to ensure that they are available when needed. Your ability to identify and manage Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) will be crucial in this role.
- Collaboration: Working closely with other instrumentation technicians, electricians, and millwrights will be essential for troubleshooting and resolving complex issues. Effective teamwork will enhance the overall performance of the plant.
- Standby Duties: You may be required to be on standby during off-hours, ensuring that any emergencies or critical issues can be addressed promptly to minimize impact on production.

Qualifications and Experience Required
To be successful in this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:
- Educational Background: A minimum qualification of an N6 diploma, S4, or BTech in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering is required. This educational foundation will equip you with the necessary technical knowledge for the role.
- Industry Experience: You should have at least 5 years of experience working in the metals manufacturing industry, particularly in environments involving furnaces, hot and cold rolling processes, or other heavy engineering sectors.
- PLC Programming and Fault Finding: Experience in programming and fault finding on Siemens PLCs (including Siemens S5, S7, or 1500, TIA Portal) is essential. Your proficiency in this area will be crucial for addressing automation challenges effectively.
- Variable Speed Drives: The ideal candidate should have experience with AC and DC variable speed drives (ABB, Siemens, Nidec), including programming and commissioning tasks.
- SCADA Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with SCADA systems such as Intouch and WinCC is a valuable asset, enabling you to monitor and control industrial processes efficiently.
- Electrical Distribution Experience: Knowledge of electrical distribution, including motor testing and fault finding at 525V, will be beneficial for this role.
- Process Instrumentation: A sound understanding of process instrumentation and PID control loops is required. This knowledge will help you ensure that processes remain stable and efficient.
- Additional Knowledge: Familiarity with radiation detection systems, gas installations, ladle, and vessel burners will be advantageous.
- Data Analysis Skills: The ability to write reports and perform data trending or analysis for reliability engineering will be beneficial, allowing you to identify patterns and optimize processes.
