Job Description:
As a Service Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, servicing, repair, and commissioning of laboratory equipment. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge equipment in a growing industry. You’ll be required to travel both locally and occasionally into other parts of Africa, providing technical support and ensuring that equipment runs smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Commissioning: You will be responsible for setting up laboratory equipment at client locations, ensuring it is correctly installed and operating optimally from day one.
- Repair and Maintenance: A large part of your role will involve diagnosing and fixing any issues with the equipment. This may include both hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Servicing: You will perform routine checks and services to ensure that laboratory equipment operates efficiently, minimizing downtime for the client.
- Reporting: After every service or repair task, you’ll be required to complete detailed reports. These will include the nature of the fault, what was done to resolve it, and any future preventative actions that should be taken.
- Travel: This role involves traveling within South Africa and occasionally to other African countries. Overnight stays may be required when jobs are located outside of the Gauteng region.
- Client Interaction: Building positive relationships with clients is key. As a Service Technician, you’ll need to communicate effectively, providing professional, high-quality service to clients.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education:
- A minimum of a Matric certificate (Grade 12) is essential.
- A suitable qualification in electronics, equivalent to a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation, is required.
- Technical Skills:
- Must have a thorough understanding of electronic circuit diagrams and be able to read and interpret them accurately.
- Experience with instrumentation is critical, especially in areas such as pressure, flow, and temperature controls.
- Software Proficiency:
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is necessary. You will use programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook for report writing, data logging, and communication.
- Other Requirements:
- A valid driver’s license is required, with strong driving experience. You must be comfortable traveling for work, sometimes with overnight stays.
- Candidates must reside in or around Kempton Park to ensure smooth operations and timely response to client needs.
Desirable Attributes:
- Laboratory Equipment Experience:
Prior experience working with laboratory equipment is a plus. If you have a background in laboratory environments or have serviced similar equipment in the past, this experience will give you a significant advantage. - Strong Problem-Solving Skills:
As a Service Technician, you’ll need to think on your feet, identifying issues quickly and implementing solutions that reduce downtime and maintain the functionality of the equipment. - Team Player:
