Key Responsibilities
As a Financial Accountant, your primary role will be to oversee the complete accounting function within the organization. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- General Ledger Management: You will manage the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. You will play a crucial role in providing insights that guide business decisions.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, monitoring actual performance against the budget, and providing variance analysis.
- Audit Preparation: Prepare for annual audits and liaise with auditors to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal controls.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections, while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and clients.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure all tax-related obligations are met, including VAT submissions and compliance with local tax laws.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving processes and efficiency within the accounting function.
Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting is required, along with completed articles from either SAIPA or SAICA. This academic foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of financial management.
- Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar role is required. Experience within the hospitality industry is a significant advantage, as it provides insight into the unique financial challenges faced by this sector.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in accounting software, particularly Pastel, as well as advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Your ability to leverage technology will be crucial for efficient reporting and analysis.
- Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills are a must. You should be comfortable navigating various financial software and tools to enhance productivity and accuracy.
- Detail-Oriented: A keen eye for detail is essential in this role, ensuring that all financial data is accurate and complies with relevant standards and regulations.
- Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within the finance team and across other departments. Communication is key in a role that requires interaction with various stakeholders.
