About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in our Trauma Unit, you’ll be a vital part of our team, delivering specialized care for critically ill patients. You’ll ensure each patient receives optimal care, helping to drive positive outcomes aligned with our hospital’s goals. This position is perfect for a detail-oriented nurse who thrives under pressure and is dedicated to patient well-being.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management

  • Accurate Billing: Ensure correct clocking times in the trauma unit for precise billing.
  • Stock Management: Participate in stock-taking and manage consignment stock per hospital policies.
  • Equipment Handling: Guarantee proper use and maintenance of trauma equipment.

2. Patient Care

  • Pre- and Post-Operative Care: Gather essential patient info pre-op and ensure comfort and support post-op.
  • Assist in Procedures: Support doctors during surgical procedures.
  • Patient Advocacy: Communicate with patients and their families about care plans and updates.

3. Staff Management & Training

  • Trauma Training: Conduct trauma-specific training for team members and monitor their competence.
  • Team Oversight: Ensure all team members work within their scope of practice.
  • Performance Monitoring: Provide feedback to the Unit Manager on team performance and patient outcomes.

4. Safety & Quality (SHEQ) Management

  • Protective Gear: Maintain safety standards, including personal protective equipment use.
  • Infection Control: Follow strict protocols for medical waste disposal to prevent infection risks.
  • ISO Compliance: Adhere to ISO requirements for quality and safety.

5. Stakeholder Relationships

  • Internal Collaboration: Attend review meetings and collaborate effectively with other departments.
  • External Liaison: Maintain a positive relationship with external stakeholders and escalate issues when needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 National Senior Certificate and General Nursing Degree/Diploma.
  • Licensure: Registered with SANC (South African Nursing Council).
  • Experience: Prior trauma experience is essential; technical skills to handle trauma cases.
  • Skills: Computer proficiency is a plus; BLS certification is required.
  • Other: A diploma in trauma nursing or a related specialty is advantageous. Familiarity with the private healthcare landscape is a bonus.
