Position Overview
Life Healthcare is seeking an experienced Laundry Manager to oversee Life P.E Laundry, which services seven Life Healthcare hospitals. The Laundry Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient processing of 4 tons of laundry daily, seven days a week. This role requires a strong focus on maintaining high-quality laundry standards, managing staff, optimizing operational efficiency, and ensuring the facility’s activities align with Life Healthcare’s strategic objectives in terms of growth, quality, and people management.
Key Responsibilities
Quality and Operational Management
- Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality linen to the hospitals on time, meeting all hospital requirements.
- Maintain effective communication with hospital managers to monitor and adjust laundry stock levels and ensure that par levels are met.
- Oversee the day-to-day functioning and management of the laundry facility, ensuring all processes are optimized for efficiency and quality.
- Implement best operating practices within the facility and take corrective actions where required to maintain high service standards.
- Achieve operational targets within financial constraints and optimize process improvements to extend the lifespan of laundry equipment.
Leadership and Staff Management
- Lead, motivate, and develop the laundry team according to Life Healthcare’s people policies.
- Manage the recruitment, retention, and performance of laundry staff to ensure alignment with the facility’s operational goals.
- Foster a positive employee relations environment to enhance productivity and maintain a healthy and safe working atmosphere.
- Encourage continuous staff development, driving quality improvements and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Customer and Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain effective relationships with hospital customers, ensuring that laundry needs are consistently met.
- Collaborate with suppliers and other key stakeholders to ensure the delivery of laundry services and products are aligned with quality expectations.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards and other relevant legislation and regulations.
- Implement and manage infection control, health and safety, and environmental standards within the laundry facility.
- Work with the Maintenance Manager to ensure optimal performance of the laundry equipment, supporting routine maintenance to maximize equipment longevity and reliability.
Financial and Resource Management
- Adjust stock levels based on customer demand and ensure the facility operates within financial targets.
- Optimize the use of resources and ensure that all activities are aligned with the financial goals of the department and the wider hospital network.
Requirements
- Qualifications:
- Degree/Diploma in Business Management, with a background in Engineering or Technical fields being advantageous.
- Experience:
- At least 3–5 years of general management experience in a factory, production, or hospital environment.
- Proven experience in process management, logistics, and people management.
- Previous experience with Union relations is advantageous.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of laundry equipment, processes, and terminology, or the ability to learn.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office).
- A driver’s license and own, reliable transport are required.
