Position Summary
This SAIPA Article Clerk position is designed for candidates who are either studying toward a relevant accounting degree or have already completed their qualification and are ready to start their journey toward becoming a certified professional accountant. As a trainee accountant, you will gain invaluable practical experience in various aspects of accounting, financial management, tax, and client interaction. Key Responsibilities
As a SAIPA Trainee Accountant, you will be responsible for a range of tasks designed to give you broad exposure to the accounting profession. Your duties will include:
- Transaction Capture
You will be responsible for accurately capturing financial transactions into accounting records. This includes managing various types of financial data and ensuring all entries are correct and up-to-date. - Reconciliations
Regular reconciliations are essential to ensure that financial statements and reports are accurate. You will conduct reconciliations of accounts, including bank reconciliations, ensuring that any discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly. - Bookkeeping to Balance Sheet
You will perform bookkeeping duties and ensure that financial data is recorded correctly up to the balance sheet stage. This is a crucial step in preparing financial reports and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements. - Preparation of Financial Statements
As part of your role, you will assist in preparing financial statements in accordance with accounting standards. You will gain experience in interpreting financial data and ensuring that statements accurately reflect the company’s financial position. - Tax Calculations and Returns
You will calculate taxes and prepare tax returns for clients. This includes understanding various tax laws and regulations, ensuring that all tax submissions are accurate and submitted on time. - VAT Returns
Completing and submitting VAT returns is another critical component of your role. You will ensure that clients are compliant with VAT regulations and that all returns are completed accurately. - Client Interaction and Administrative Support
You will assist managers with various client matters, including handling administrative tasks. This provides an excellent opportunity to learn how to manage client relationships and gain exposure to a range of client industries. - Ad-Hoc Administrative Tasks

Qualifications and Skills Required

- Matric Certificate
A completed Matric certificate is the basic educational requirement for this role. - Relevant Accounting Qualification
You must either have completed a qualification in accounting through an accredited institution or be currently studying towards an accounting degree. Candidates who are in the process of obtaining their SAIPA accreditation will be given preference. - Microsoft Office and CaseWare Proficiency
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and CaseWare is essential for this role. You will use these tools to perform various accounting functions, so familiarity with them will make your job more efficient and effective. - Own Vehicle and Valid Driver’s License
As you may be required to travel to clients for meetings or on-site tasks, having your own reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license is a must for this position.
