Key Responsibilities:

As a Retail Accountant, your role will encompass a variety of essential tasks designed to keep the financial operations running smoothly. Here’s a detailed look at what your day-to-day might involve:

    You will oversee one or more finance clerks, providing guidance and ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded. Your leadership will foster a productive work environment.

    You’ll be responsible for reviewing all payments, wages, and salaries, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal standards. Attention to detail is crucial in this area to maintain accuracy and transparency.
  3. Financial Reporting:
    Your expertise will come into play as you pass journals, conduct VAT reconciliations, and reconcile the General Ledger with the payroll system. You will also be tasked with preparing and analyzing monthly management accounts, presenting your findings to the director to inform strategic decisions.
  4. Budget Preparation:
    You will take the lead in preparing the annual budget, collaborating with various departments to gather input and insights, ensuring that the budget aligns with the company’s overall goals.
  5. Risk Management and Insurance:
    Annually, you will meet with the insurance broker to evaluate risks versus costs. Your ability to analyze this data will be critical in presenting findings to the directors, helping them make informed decisions.
  6. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
    Your role will also involve overseeing various compliance-related tasks, including COIDA, Employment Equity/SDL, EMP501’s/IRP5’s, and CIPC submissions, ensuring that the company adheres to all necessary regulations.
  7. Rental Portfolio Management:
    You will assist in managing the rental portfolio by reviewing lease offers and agreements. Summarizing these agreements and arranging bank guarantees will be part of your responsibilities, requiring a keen understanding of financial implications.
  8. Auditor Liaison:
    As the primary contact for auditors and SARS, you will manage communication and ensure all documentation is prepared for audits, maintaining a smooth process.

Skills and Experience Required:

To thrive in this position, the ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Educational Background:
    A completed degree in Finance is essential. Additionally, you should have finished your SAIPA articles or be due to sign off by December 2024. Your educational background will provide you with the necessary foundation to excel in this role.
