Job Summary
As a Junior Control Systems Engineer, you will be tasked with programming, testing, and commissioning various facilities according to project specifications. Key Requirements
To be considered for this position, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Education:
- A formal tertiary education with a minimum of Grade 12.
- A National Diploma (N.Dip) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Mechatronics or a related field is essential.
- Languages:
- Proficiency in English is required (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Knowledge of Afrikaans and German is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Driver’s License:
- A valid Code 8 driver’s license or higher is required.
Relevant Experience
- PLC Programming:
You should have hands-on experience with PLC logic and programming using one or more of the following PLCs: Siemens, Beckhoff, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, or Omron. - Interfacing Experience:
Familiarity with interfacing SCADA systems, motion control, robotic systems, vision systems, or measuring systems to PLC applications is crucial. - Computer Proficiency:
A solid understanding of computer and PLC system configuration is necessary, as well as the ability to create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, simulation, and testing. - Project Exposure:
Candidates should have a sound understanding of facility commissioning requirements, with 1 to 3 years of exposure to project environments. - Problem-Solving Skills:
You should demonstrate logical and systematic thinking, with strong problem-solving techniques to arrive at effective solutions. - Technical Communication:
The ability to confidently interface and communicate with other technical professionals is essential for success in this role.
Main Responsibilities
In your capacity as a Junior Control Systems Engineer, you will have the following key responsibilities:
- Project Completion:
Ensure on-time completion of projects, adhering to project constraints while maintaining quality standards. - Programming and Commissioning:
Program, test, and commission facilities according to the project scope of work, ensuring compliance with technical specifications. - Software Development:
Develop, improve, and refine the software/code utilized in projects to enhance effectiveness and efficiency within control systems. - Process Flow Development:
Define and set up process flowcharts and sequences of operation for the required facilities, ensuring clarity and efficiency in operations. - Control System Configuration:
Establish the most effective control system configuration to meet the specified requirements, applying advanced control techniques to the production process. - Mechanical and Electrical Solutions:
Assist with mechanical and electrical solutions as needed, showcasing versatility in your engineering skills. - Documentation:
Provide detailed control system documentation upon project completion to ensure transparency and clarity for future reference. - Project Meetings:
Attend and contribute positively in relevant project-related meetings, collaborating with colleagues to drive project success. - Client Liaison:
Confidently liaise with customers throughout the project lifecycle, addressing queries and providing updates as needed. - Production Support:
Offer production support during projects where necessary, ensuring a seamless transition from development to implementation. - Travel Requirements:
Be prepared to travel locally and internationally to assist with the installation and commissioning of facilities on-site. - System Integration:
Integrate and interface with other site machines using various communication protocols (Serial, Digital, Ethernet, Profi-bus, etc.). - Program Adjustments:
Modify and adjust existing programs to meet evolving project needs and specifications.
