As a Junior Accountant, you will be at the forefront of key financial operations, including invoicing, bookkeeping, and financial reporting. Key Responsibilities

In your new role as a Junior Accountant, you will be responsible for a range of critical financial functions, which include:

  • Bookkeeping and Invoicing: You will manage all aspects of bookkeeping, ensuring that financial records are accurate and up to date. This includes generating client invoices promptly and efficiently.
  • Accounts Payable Management: You will oversee the accounts payable process, ensuring that supplier invoices are processed and paid on time to maintain healthy supplier relationships.
  • Data Entry: Using Xero, you will enter receipts, invoices, and disbursements, keeping the financial data accurate and organized.
  • Bank Reconciliation: You will perform regular reconciliations of bank statements to ensure that all transactions are accounted for and discrepancies are addressed promptly.
  • VAT Reporting: Timely preparation and submission of VAT reports and returns will be one of your key tasks, requiring attention to detail to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Payroll Verification: You will verify payroll processes to ensure compliance with South African tax regulations, including PAYE, SDL, and UIF.
  • Supplier and Customer Reconciliations: Conduct monthly reconciliations for both suppliers and customers, ensuring accuracy and resolving any discrepancies that may arise.
  • Financial Statements Preparation: You will assist in preparing accurate financial statements and ensuring that any findings from audits are implemented effectively.
  • Collaboration with Auditors: Work closely with auditors across multiple entities to provide them with timely and accurate financial reports, supporting the overall audit process.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of finance-related policies and procedures, contributing to the organization’s operational efficiency.

Required Skills and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of bookkeeping experience is essential. Experience in consolidated reporting, vendor management, billing, and project accounting will be considered an advantage.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Xero and Caseware is required, as these are integral to our client’s financial operations.
  • Financial Reporting Skills: Exceptional financial reporting skills are necessary to effectively communicate financial data and insights to stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: A strong attention to detail is crucial in ensuring the accuracy of financial data and compliance with regulations.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational abilities will help you manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills will allow you to address financial discrepancies and develop solutions promptly.

Qualifications

  • A relevant BCom degree is required.
  • Completion of SAIPA Articles is essential for consideration.
