Key Responsibilities
As a Financial Manager, you will take on a diverse set of responsibilities that are crucial to the financial health of the organization. Here’s what you can expect:
- General Ledger Management:
- Create and oversee General Ledger (GL) accounts, ensuring the integrity of the financial data systems.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive reporting structures that aid in financial analysis and decision-making.
- Financial Transactions Recording:
- Accurately record and process all financial transactions, ensuring compliance with established accounting standards.
- Conduct weekly analyses of income and expenses, comparing actual figures against budgeted forecasts to identify variances.
- Bank and Cash Reconciliations:
- Perform regular reconciliations of bank and cash transactions, ensuring all discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
- Review the aging of debtors and creditors to manage credit risk and cash flow effectively.
- Monthly Reporting and Journals:
- Prepare monthly management accounts and necessary journals to reflect the financial standing of the organization.
- Ensure that all balance sheet control accounts are accurately managed and reported.
- Fixed Assets Management:
- Oversee fixed asset transactions, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with relevant accounting policies.
- Internal Control and Compliance:
- Develop and implement improved internal control procedures to enhance the financial reporting process.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and statutory requirements.
- Working Capital Monitoring:
- Monitor and report on working capital management, identifying opportunities for optimization.
- Capex Management:
- Manage Capital Expenditure (Capex) spending against the budget, providing detailed variance reports.
- Annual Budgeting Process:
- Lead the annual budget preparation process, collaborating with various departments to ensure accurate projections.
- Group Reporting:
- Compile reports for Group Management and prepare comprehensive financial reports for the quarterly Board meetings.
- Team Leadership:
- Effectively lead the finance team, ensuring high performance and engagement through mentoring and development.
- Drive process improvements and operational strategies to support the organization’s growth objectives.
- Staff Management:
- Manage and develop finance staff, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Articles Completed: A fundamental requirement is the completion of your articles, signifying a solid foundation in accounting principles.
- Team Management: Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team effectively, ensuring productivity and morale.
- Commercial Experience: A minimum of 2 years of post-article experience, ideally within a commercial setting. Experience in the retail or FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) sectors will be highly advantageous.
- Dynamic Environment Adaptability: The ability to thrive in an unstructured, fast-paced environment is essential.
- System Savvy: Familiarity with accounting systems is important, particularly as the company is in the process of transitioning to a new accounting platform.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following academic qualifications:
- A completed Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree or an equivalent qualification.
- Completed articles with SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants), SAIPA (South African Institute of Professional Accountants), or have qualifications from CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
