Key Responsibilities

Your role as a Group Financial Accountant will involve a variety of tasks that are crucial to the company’s financial success. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare and present financial statements and reports to senior management and other stakeholders. You will ensure that these reports are accurate, up-to-date, and comply with the company’s accounting policies and relevant financial regulations.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial data. This will involve identifying trends, variances, and potential risks, and offering solutions to improve financial outcomes.

2. Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Work closely with the management team to prepare budgets and financial forecasts. Your role will be to ensure that these budgets are realistic, achievable, and aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgeted figures, providing explanations for any variances and making recommendations for corrective actions.

3. Compliance and Regulatory Reporting

  • Ensure that the company’s financial operations comply with all relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements. This will include preparing tax returns, submitting statutory financial reports, and ensuring that all financial practices adhere to legal guidelines.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulations, advising management on any necessary adjustments to financial practices or reporting.

4. Internal Controls and Auditing

  • Implement and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data. This will include identifying any weaknesses in the current financial systems and suggesting improvements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing auditors with the necessary documentation and explanations to facilitate a smooth auditing process.

5. Collaboration and Leadership

  • Collaborate with other departments within the organization to ensure that financial information is properly integrated into the company’s overall operations. You will also provide financial support and guidance to different teams, helping them to understand the financial implications of their decisions.
  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing them with the guidance and support they need to grow in their roles.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Background: An Honours degree in Accounting is essential. This academic background provides the strong foundation needed for the technical aspects of this role.
  • Professional Designation: Candidates must hold the AGA (SA) designation (Associate General Accountant South Africa). This designation is a mark of your professional expertise and commitment to the highest standards of accounting practice.
  • Completed Articles: Completion of articles is a critical requirement. This experience is key to understanding the practical aspects of accounting and financial management.
  • Post-Articles Experience: Ideally, candidates will have between one to two years of post-articles experience. This experience will allow you to bring valuable insights and practical knowledge to the role, particularly in the areas of financial reporting, compliance, and management accounting.
