Key Responsibilities
As a Field Guide, your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct Guided Safari Activities:
- Lead guests on exciting game drives and nature walks through the breathtaking landscapes of the lodge’s surroundings. You will have the opportunity to showcase the diverse wildlife, including the Big Five, and teach guests about the animals they encounter.
- Create memorable experiences by personalizing each safari, ensuring guests feel connected to the environment and the wildlife.
- Engage and Host Guests:
- Your role goes beyond guiding; you will be an ambassador for the lodge. Engage with guests by sharing fascinating stories and insights about the animals and their habitats.
- Foster a welcoming and friendly atmosphere that encourages guests to ask questions and participate actively in the safari experience.
- Educate on Conservation:
- Inform guests about the importance of conservation and the lodge’s efforts in protecting the environment. Discuss various conservation initiatives and how they can contribute to preserving South Africa’s unique biodiversity.
- Encourage guests to become advocates for wildlife conservation, ensuring they leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation for nature.
- Maintain Equipment and Vehicles:
- Ensure that all safari vehicles and equipment are in excellent condition, clean, and ready for use. Perform regular checks and maintenance to guarantee safety and reliability during game drives.
- Report any issues promptly and assist in resolving them to ensure a seamless experience for guests.
- Assist in Lodge Operations:
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth lodge operations. This may include helping with guest check-ins, participating in team meetings, or assisting with other lodge-related tasks as needed.
- Contribute to creating a holistic guest experience that combines luxury, comfort, and adventure.
- Contribute to Conservation Initiatives:
- Participate in local conservation programs and lodge initiatives that focus on protecting wildlife and their habitats.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following qualifications:
- Minimum FGASA Level 1 Certification: This certification is essential as it ensures you have the foundational knowledge required for guiding safaris. FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) certification reflects your commitment to professional standards in guiding.
- Valid First Aid Certification: Safety is paramount in the wilderness. Having a current First Aid certification ensures that you can respond effectively to any emergencies that may arise during your safaris.
- Professional Driving Permit (PDP): A valid PDP is necessary to operate the lodge’s vehicles legally and safely. This certification demonstrates your capability in driving larger vehicles under various conditions.
