Key Responsibilities

As a Driver at Wits VIDA, your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Safe Transportation: Safely transport clients, packages, and patients to and from various destinations while adhering to all traffic regulations and company policies.
  2. Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure that all vehicles are kept clean and well-maintained. Conduct regular checks to confirm that vehicles are in optimal condition, including checking fuel levels and reporting any faults, repairs, or accidents in a timely manner.
  3. Office Support Duties: Assist with general office support tasks as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency of the team.
  4. Driver Testing: Participate in the testing of new drivers as part of various studies and programs within the unit, ensuring that all drivers meet the necessary safety and performance standards.
  5. Scheduling: Work closely with management to coordinate daily transportation schedules, ensuring timely and efficient service for all clients.
  6. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate mileage and repair records for all vehicles. Complete relevant vehicle usage forms in accordance with company policy.
  7. Patient Transport: Provide safe transport for patients to and from appointments, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.
  8. Staff Transport: Assist in transporting staff members for home visits or other necessary tasks as required.
  9. Ad Hoc Duties: Carry out any additional responsibilities assigned by management to support the overall operations of the unit.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Education: A Matric certificate is required.
  • License: A valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of driving experience is required.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

While the minimum qualifications are essential, the following attributes will be advantageous:

  • Self-Motivated: You should be proactive and able to work independently.
  • Resilience Under Pressure: The ability to perform under pressure, including willingness to work odd hours when necessary, is important.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relating skills are crucial for effective communication with clients, patients, and staff.
  • Punctuality: A good sense of time management and punctuality will help you succeed in this role.
  • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the Soweto area will be considered an added advantage.
