Key Responsibilities
As a Control Systems Engineer specializing in commissioning, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of control systems across various projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Programming and Commissioning:
- Develop, program, test, and commission control systems to meet project specifications and requirements.
- Utilize your expertise in PLC programming languages and various PLC systems, including Siemens, Beckhoff, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, and Omron, to design effective solutions.
- System Configuration:
- Establish the most effective control system configurations to achieve project goals and enhance operational efficiency.
- Interface and integrate SCADA systems, motion control, robotic systems, and measuring devices with PLC applications, ensuring seamless communication and functionality.
- Project Management:
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure on-time project completion, adhering to established timelines and milestones.
- Utilize your strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and maintain project schedules effectively.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Apply advanced problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve issues related to existing installations.
- Conduct thorough troubleshooting of electrical circuitry and control systems to ensure smooth operations and minimize downtime.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Provide detailed documentation of control systems upon project completion, including programming manuals and system configurations.
- Attend project-related meetings and actively contribute insights to enhance project outcomes and ensure alignment among stakeholders.
- Client Interaction:
- Liaise with clients during project execution, providing updates and addressing any concerns to ensure satisfaction with the delivered solutions.
- Foster constructive communication with customers to build strong professional relationships and facilitate project success.
- Travel and On-Site Support:
- Be prepared to travel locally and internationally to assist with the installation and commissioning of control systems on-site.
- Provide production support as needed, ensuring that systems are operational and functioning optimally.
Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications and possess the necessary skills:
- Educational Background:
- A formal tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (N.Dip), Mechatronics (N.Dip), or a related field (B.Eng. in Mechatronics is also acceptable).
- Professional Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in PLC programming within the automotive industry, showcasing your ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in PLC programming and logic with hands-on experience in interfacing various systems and devices.
- Knowledge of computer and PLC system configuration and a practical understanding of electrical circuitry troubleshooting.
- Languages:
- Fluency in English is essential (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Proficiency in Afrikaans and/or German is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Software Proficiency:
- Familiarity with MS Office and similar software is necessary for documentation and communication purposes.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong communication skills to interface confidently with technical professionals and clients, ensuring clear and effective collaboration.
