Position Summary

The Assistant Seamstress position is an integral role within our housekeeping department. Your primary responsibilities will involve maintaining the quality and appearance of linen, towels, staff uniforms, and even guest clothing upon request. This position will require you to use your sewing skills to perform alterations and repairs, ensuring that our guests and staff always have access to immaculate linen and uniforms.

If you have experience working in a hospitality or hotel environment, this will be a valuable asset, but it is not mandatory. We are looking for someone who can quickly adapt, is willing to learn, and is capable of handling the demands of this fast-paced, detail-oriented role.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role as an Assistant Seamstress will include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

Linen and Towels: Perform alterations, repairs, and occasional customizations to linens and towels used in various departments, ensuring they meet Fancourt’s high-quality standards.
Guest Clothing: Handle any guest requests for clothing repairs or alterations as part of the bespoke service we offer to enhance their experience.
Uniform Management: Issue and maintain the chef uniforms, ensuring they are cleaned, pressed, and available for daily use.
Uniform Store Maintenance: Take responsibility for organizing and managing the uniform store, including conducting monthly stock checks and ensuring all items are properly stored.
Laundry Coordination: Collaborate closely with the laundry team to ensure efficient dispatching and receiving of chef uniforms from external cleaning services.
Daily Linen Duties: Assist in counting, sorting, and packing dirty linens and towels from guest rooms to maintain a smooth flow of housekeeping operations.
Sewing Machine Maintenance: Ensure that sewing machines and other relevant tools are clean, well-maintained, and fully operational to prevent any disruptions in workflow.

Who We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:

Minimum Education: Grade 10 or equivalent educational qualification.
Experience: Some sewing and fabric knowledge is essential. Prior experience in a hotel or similar hospitality environment is advantageous.
Physical & Mental Fitness: This position involves manual work, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and handling laundry items. Candidates must be physically fit and mentally capable of handling the demands of the job.
Teamwork: The ability to work closely with the housekeeping and laundry teams is critical to ensure seamless operations.
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, especially in terms of garment repairs, alterations, and fabric quality, is crucial.
Flexibility: The role requires working shifts, including weekends and public holidays. Applicants should have their own accommodation in George or surrounding areas to accommodate this schedule.
