Job Overview:
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of others? Do you have a background in healthcare, specifically in rehabilitation services? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you! Our client, a prominent private hospital group in Cape Town, is seeking a dedicated Rehabilitation Admissions Consultant for their acute Rehabilitation Unit.
In this pivotal role, you will be the bridge between patients, their families, and the healthcare system. You will help ensure that patients receive the necessary care and support they need during their rehabilitation journey. You will work closely with various internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, funders, and patients themselves. Your goal will be to enhance awareness of the rehabilitation unit, facilitate admissions, and manage ongoing patient care effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Rehabilitation Admissions Consultant, your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the rehabilitation unit. Your main duties will include:
- Patient Assessments: You will be required to travel to acute hospitals or even patients’ homes to conduct thorough assessments of individuals referred for rehabilitation. This hands-on approach allows you to understand each patient’s unique needs and circumstances, ensuring that they receive tailored care.
- Admission Coordination: Once assessments are completed, you will coordinate the admissions for all referred patients. This involves ensuring that all necessary paperwork and approvals are in place for a smooth transition into the rehabilitation unit.
- Liaison with Funders: A critical part of your role will be to communicate with funders, such as medical aid organizations, to secure authorization for patient admissions. You will also be responsible for managing ongoing case management during patients’ stays, ensuring that all funding requirements are met and that patients receive uninterrupted care.
- Effective Communication: Throughout the patient’s stay, you will maintain open lines of communication with the rehabilitation team, funders, referring colleagues, patients, and their families. Your role as a communicator will help build trust and understanding, allowing for a more positive rehabilitation experience.
- Financial Management: You will manage rehab accounts and credit risks. This includes keeping track of billing, understanding funding processes, and addressing any potential financial issues that may arise.
- Relationship Building: Developing and nurturing positive relationships with referring doctors, nursing staff, and funders is essential. Your ability to connect with these individuals will help foster trust and collaboration, ultimately benefiting the patients you serve.
- Business Development: You will play an active role in promoting and growing new business for the rehabilitation unit. This involves participating in the implementation of new products and services that can enhance patient care and recovery.
- Marketing Strategy Development: You will be tasked with developing a comprehensive marketing strategy for the rehabilitation unit, tailored specifically to the catchment area, referral base, and funders. This strategy will guide your efforts to raise awareness and attract new patients.
- Event Coordination: As part of your marketing initiatives, you will coordinate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events and special occasions that celebrate achievements within the rehabilitation unit. These events will help strengthen relationships with stakeholders and promote a sense of community.
- Data Management: You will maintain a database of referrals and stakeholders. This organized record-keeping will allow you to track relationships, follow up on referrals, and assess the effectiveness of your outreach efforts.
- Participation in Forums: Active participation in national Rehabilitation Advisory Committees (RAC) forums will be expected. Engaging with these forums will keep you updated on industry trends and best practices, enabling you to bring valuable insights back to your team.
Minimum Requirements:
To be considered for this vital position, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Educational Background: You must be a Registered Nurse or Therapist with current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or the South African Nursing Council (SANC). This ensures that you possess the necessary credentials and knowledge to provide quality care.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer literacy is essential. You will be using various software and databases to manage patient information and financial records effectively.
- Account Management Knowledge: Familiarity with accounts management is crucial, as you will be dealing with billing and financial records regularly.
- Case Management Experience: While experience in hospital case management is advantageous, it is not mandatory. However, having this background will certainly give you a competitive edge.
- ICD10 Coding/CPT Training: Training in ICD10 coding and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) is a plus. This knowledge will assist you in accurately coding and billing for patient services.
- Clinical Experience: Previous clinical experience in neurology, neurosurgery, or rehabilitation is beneficial. This experience will enhance your understanding of the specific needs of patients undergoing rehabilitation.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the hospital industry, as well as experience with Managed Care Organizations and Medical Aids, is crucial for navigating the funding landscape effectively.
- Transportation Requirements: You will need your own transport and a valid driver’s license. This is essential as the role requires travel to conduct patient assessments.
- Personal Attributes: The ideal candidate should possess a results-oriented mindset, strong attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills. These qualities are vital for building relationships and ensuring a positive experience for patients and their families.
