Overview:
A farm in the Bethal area of Mpumalanga is seeking a Junior Crop Farm Manager to join their agricultural team. Key Responsibilities:
- Crop Management: Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of maize and soya crops, ensuring they are properly cared for from planting to harvesting.
- Team Leadership: Motivate and manage a small team of workers to ensure that all farm tasks are completed efficiently.
- Innovative Thinking: Take initiative by proposing new farming techniques, ideas, or improvements that can enhance productivity or reduce costs.
- Farm Equipment Maintenance: Have basic mechanical skills to perform maintenance on farming equipment to keep operations running smoothly.
- Operational Efficiency: Monitor crop growth, soil conditions, and other farming-related factors to ensure optimal results for all crop cycles.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure all farm-related activities are on track and address challenges as they arise.
What We Are Looking For:
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Education:
- A Diploma or Degree in Agriculture is advantageous, but relevant farming experience is equally valuable.
- Experience:
- Previous experience with crop farming, particularly with maize and soya, is required. Understanding crop cycles and modern farming practices will be important.
- Skills:
- Computer Literate: Comfortable using computers for record-keeping, data analysis, and communication.
- Leadership Abilities: Someone who can motivate and manage a team effectively.
- Independent & Proactive: You should be able to take ownership of tasks and introduce new ways to improve farming practices.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to handle challenges, including maintenance and operational issues, as they arise.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with the team and other stakeholders.
- Other Requirements:
- Mechanical Inclination: Being mechanically inclined to perform or oversee basic repairs and maintenance on farm equipment.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is essential for traveling around the farm.
