Key Responsibilities:

Your role will encompass a variety of responsibilities designed to ensure a smooth admission process and effective case management. Here are some of the critical tasks you will undertake:

  1. Patient Assessments:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients either at hospitals or in their homes. This will involve understanding their medical history, current condition, and rehabilitation needs. Your insights will be essential for crafting tailored rehabilitation plans.
  1. Coordinating Admissions:
  • Arrange and coordinate admissions to the rehabilitation unit, ensuring all necessary information is gathered and processed. This includes working closely with healthcare providers to facilitate a seamless transition for patients into our care.
  1. Marketing the Rehabilitation Unit:
  • Actively market the rehabilitation unit within the local community. This will involve building relationships with local hospitals, specialists, and healthcare professionals to increase awareness and referrals to our facility.
  1. Managing Referrals and Stakeholder Relationships:
  • Maintain and expand our referral and stakeholder database. Developing strong relationships with specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers is essential for generating leads and enhancing our facility’s reputation.
  1. Case Management:
  • Oversee case management duties and liaise with funders and medical schemes to ensure patients receive the necessary support and funding for their rehabilitation. Your ability to navigate these conversations will be crucial for our patients’ financial and medical assistance.
  1. Effective Communication:
  • Ensure clear and effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders. This includes collaborating with the rehabilitation team, patients, and their family members to keep everyone informed and engaged in the rehabilitation process.
  1. Financial and Credit Risk Management:
  • Manage the financial aspects of rehabilitation accounts, ensuring accurate billing and addressing any credit risks. Your attention to detail will be vital in this area to avoid any discrepancies.
  1. Education and Outreach:
  • Participate in educational outreach efforts to inform the community about rehabilitation services and the importance of rehabilitation in recovery. Your knowledge and experience will help guide others in understanding the rehabilitation process.

Qualifications and Skills:

To be successful in this role, you will need the following qualifications and skills:

  • Education:
  • You must be a qualified Registered Nurse, Physiotherapist, or Occupational Therapist. A strong clinical background will help you understand the rehabilitation process from the patient’s perspective.
  • Registration:
  • You must be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). This registration is essential for practicing in your respective field.
  • Clinical Experience:
  • While not a clinical role, having clinical experience in areas such as neurology, neurosurgery, or rehabilitation will be advantageous. This knowledge will enhance your ability to assess patients and coordinate care effectively.

  • Computer Proficiency:
  • You must be proficient in using computers and various software applications. This will include managing databases, communicating via email, and utilizing any relevant software for tracking admissions and referrals.
  • Understanding of Healthcare Systems:
  • Familiarity with the private hospital environment, medical aids, and funding structures is critical. You should understand how these systems operate to effectively assist patients in navigating their options.
