Position Overview

Life Healthcare is seeking a Quality Officer (QO) for Life Entabeni Hospital. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in the implementation and maintenance of the hospital’s Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System. The role involves monitoring the effectiveness of quality processes and coordinating efforts to ensure that quality standards are met across multiple departments, including Life St Joseph Hospital, Life Entabeni Rehabilitation, and Renal Units.

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Build productive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in forums, cross-functional activities, and networking opportunities to drive quality improvements across the hospital.

Quality Processes Monitoring and Improvement

  • Support the hospital’s quality and environmental sustainability objectives, ensuring alignment with Group objectives.
  • Drive the achievement of quality and environmental targets by collaborating with Heads of Departments (HODs).
  • Generate and communicate the hospital quality scorecard and monthly reports.
  • Monitor and report on trends, risks, incidents, and corrective actions in Clinical and Quality Governance meetings.
  • Collaborate with departments (e.g., Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing) to assess and mitigate environmental risks and ensure compliance with waste management regulations.

Deviation and Incident Management

  • Support the reporting, investigation, and resolution of quality and environmental deviations.
  • Ensure that corrective actions from audits and incidents are followed through.

Data and Risk Management

  • Manage the InfoQuest data management system, ensuring accurate data capture and reporting.
  • Support the Quality Manager in conducting annual risk assessments and ensuring that risk action plans are evaluated quarterly.

Occupational Health and Safety

  • Coordinate the Health & Safety Committee meetings and ensure compliance with safety legislation.
  • Assist in emergency planning, including fire drills and mock evacuation exercises.
  • Coordinate the reporting of employee injuries and occupational diseases.

Document Control and Compliance

  • Ensure the governance of quality document control processes and support staff in complying with internal document review processes.

Audit Participation

  • Assist in planning and participating in internal and external audits, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented and non-conformities are closed out.

Training and Development

  • Conduct training for hospital staff to ensure understanding of quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Provide induction training focused on legal requirements and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    • Diploma in Nursing with current SANC registration.
  • Experience and Skills:
    • Proven experience in quality management within healthcare settings.
    • ISO 9001:2015 knowledge is essential.
    • Health & Safety legislation knowledge (including COIDA).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and InfoQuest reporting system.
  • Competencies:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Ability to influence, and orient action towards excellence and customer responsiveness.
    • High attention to detail, resilience, and strong organizational awareness.
